I have just returned from three weeks, on the lovely island of Cyprus! I like to go there whenever possible, particularly in the Spring and Autumn, when bird migration,reaches a peak.I am usually based in the far west of the island,quite close to Polis/Latchi,which more or less,borders the Akamas peninsular,the National Park of Cyprus!
Autumn is the peak migration time for the many raptors and falcons ,that are heading to Africa for the Winter.The island is a perfect stop off place for them to rest and feed up,before heading South! Many of these birds, have travelled from Northern Europe, including Scandanavia and Russia to pass through the island.
I have put together a few of the species, that I have encountered on my travels there,during the last month.Black Winged Kite,Eleanoras Falcon,Hen Harrier,Honey Buzzard,are some of the raptors below
